Reading and Talking in Edinburgh during the Winter 2024
I am grateful for this season of inspiration and connection in Edinburgh, a UNESCO city of literature! (Edinburgh is not just pretty. It’s smart, too!) Reflecting on these last months of 2024, where the days are shorter and indoors are cosier. Thankful for all the hosts and panels!
Guthrie Drama Seminar Series: Robert Softley Gale
What a blast. Organised by University of Edinburgh School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures. My heart was filled with excitement and inspiriations. Robert, the art director of Bird of Paradise Theatre Company shared his insights and experience of embedded access and theatre as art, joy, humour, and a means of radical expression and representation of disability.
Ziauddin Sardar in Conversation with Shadaab Rahemtulla
A thought-provoking discussion on decoloniality, Muslim life in London, and pluralism.
Transfixions with Shola von Reinhold and Skye Arundhati Thomas
A captivating session exploring transfixions, queer and POC history in art, enriched by Shola’s reading of highlights from her LOTE. It was also amazing to finally visit Lavender Menace, Edinburgh’s iconic queer archive.
Edinburgh Radical Book Fair 2024
Organised by lovely Lighthouse Bookshop, it was an amazing opportunity to explore daring small presses from Scotland and across the UK.
Christmas Poetry Pamphlet Fair at the Scottish Poetry Library
A cosy event featuring beautiful poetry pamphlets. It felt like being a hopeless romantic, searching for a new soulmate while browsing through those intimate collections. Always a pleasure to visit Scottish Poetry Library.
Final Class/Poetry Reading of the Poetry in Practice course at the University of Edinburgh COL
The 10-week course has ended! It was the highlight of each week for me. I’m sad it’s over but thoroughly enjoyed the last session, where we shared our readings and future plans. I am so grateful for my amazing classmates. We are going to see each other around at poetry events here and there.
Upcoming Talk 신이인x전승민 문학토크: 요즘 시 어떤가요?
I’m looking forward to this upcoming hybrid event from Seoul—a chance to engage with new Korean poetry through the voices of active poets Shin Yi-in and Jeon Seung-min, organised by Word and Bow Academy.
